  Have you noticed the common practice is to knock indivual's self esteem?

  in another thread, one of our members made a comment that caught my attention.. i have been trying to put my finger on a practice amongst the org and witnesses in general.... as soon as someone does something well, accomplishes something, or excels at something, the atmosphere effectiveley 'kicks them in the gut' to bring them down.. anything that makes a person grow or develop is blatently discouraged and therefore self esteem is squashed!.

  the constant message telling a witness to be 'humble' is designed to suck any sense of growth or 'betterment' out of a person..... therefore this leaves the average witness to be a blubbering mess of insecurity and instability completely dependant on the organization...kind of like a 'battered-wife' scenario.... .

  What is the biggest regret or source of resentment because of being a Jehovahs Witness?

  That I didn't use that time to develop myself as an artist and writer. That I didn't save all that money I made when I was younger for a house rather than spending it all on clothes and shoes for the meetings and witnessing. That I've developed chronic clinical depression from my years in the cult and may never recover. Years of fights with mum and dad over Christmas, birthdays, voting, and the things that make humans into a community. The stress I gave my parents.

  So Adam acted out of a selfish desire to please his wife? How is wanting to please another person selfish? I thought pleasing other people was the opposite of selfish. They just redefine words as it pleases them.

  Even one is too many. Of all the people I've known iny life, more jws than non jws have taken their lives.

  this is how a do explained the family business policy re relatives of df/da members.. he said that the expression, "necessary family business," is really not a scriptural term.

  it is nowhere found in the bible.

  but, out of the kindness of the gb's hearts, they have gone beyond what is written and allowed association among families for necessary business.

  They are i- Pad Nutty Now

  so many at my wife's hall have rushed to buy i-pads,androids etc for use in servicetm and at the hall.. most know little or nothing about how to use them but have joined the stampede to jw.org tm and the reinvention of the wtbts.. it prompted one elder at my wife's hall to have a seminar at his house to explain how to use them in service and at the hall.. how exciting.... one 80 year old pioneer woman will be there with her new toy.. as a distraction it seems to be working quite well.

  no need to worry about 1914 or other issues.. they are all nuts and getting nuttier....

  I remember when they made the switch to ipads and said most stuff would now be online. I was still a jw at the time, but I remember thinking about how this move would marginalize all those jws in very poor countries who don't have running water, let alone ipads.

  Is it true that the GB is soon planning on ditching the 1914 doctrine?

  10 Pragmatic facts why Jehovah's Witnesses can't face reality

  1.the organization itself denies access to reality and substitutes its own version, interpretations and meanings.. a.only watchtower approved publications are allowed.. b.no higher education is to be pursued.. c.no non-jw friends or associations are encouraged with their "outside" points of view.. d.no free-style questioning of doctrine or criticism permitted.

  curiousity is verboten.. e.threat of being "marked" or disassociated looms over them.

  2.between every real-world event and the rank and file jw's mind is a roadblock.. a.the moment of identifying is short-circuited by an interpretive moment of re-labeling in watchtower-speak.. b.all things happening are forced into a narrow storyline and propagandized as end times happenings leading to armageddon.. 3.social and personal identity is expunged and replaced by a collective persona: "jehovah's witness".. a.private thinking is red-flagged as selfish and sinful.. b.personal improvement, welfare and ambition is crushed and door-to-door ministry substituted as "worthy" endeavors.. c.self-conscious obsession permeates witness awareness as each person is transformed into a public spectacle of performance for judgement.. d.since you aren't an individual you don't really have a right to fall in love and marry or educate or earn.

  So true, and I've experienced so much of it. Just one point of correction: I know you've been out for a while and terminology constantly changes. "Plan" is now "purpose" in jw speak. Jehovah has a purpose rather than a plan apparently: there was a wt article all about the difference and y it's important a few years ago. It's not important to most people, but a jw reading it it will go, aha!! He doesn't know what he's talking about!

  What do you do when your job makes you wanna puke your face off?

  i'm talking like makes you physically sick and emotionally frazzled just thinking about it.

  i'm talking like you hate it to the point you'd rather go without than work at it just for the money.

  you'd live on cheap korean packet noodles for the next year instead of exchanging your labor for this job's money.. well, this is how i feel about teaching and tutoring.
